U-Boat Base La Pallice - how to visit the u-boatspens

Just been there last week. Finding the way in is difficult, as the port area seems to be a secure space so we drove around for quite a while before finding a way in.

Park outside a really cool biker bar on the main street in La Pallice and cross the road and drop down some steps and through an ungated opening towards the Bunker.

We were in clear sight of the security gate house but nobody seemed bothered and we were able to walk around freely without any bother. We even bumped into another three guys doing the same trip.

Getting inside is easy - there is an unlocked wire gate and notices saying this is a military site, but we didn't want to push our luck although the other guys had been in along the piers and had walked around.

Don't underestimate the size of this building - it is huge and a cathedral to the art of bunker building in concrete.

We'd been to St Nazaire earlier that week but this is just monumental when you stand alongside it.

Close by is the equally impressive power house and you can see the huge concrete casings for the cable entries in the side of the bunker.

Just do it and enjoy a cool beer afterwards in the biker bar. A great experience and well worth the effort.
