Westwall Aachen

The city occupies a very strategic position on the Belgian border and was therefore a cornerstone in Adolf Hitler’s Siegfried line. This included construction of a line of ”dragon’s teeth” along the city's western edge and the construction of several fortifications.

Aachen was the first major city in Germany to be captured by the Allies. It fell, after heavy fighting, on 21 October 1944.
