Coastal Gun Battery Vasouy

In the summer of 1943 the Germans began the construction of this coastal gun battery, which was built to protect the port of Le Havre against flanking attack. The guns were modern 155 mm. guns manufactured by Krupp. Three of the guns were placed in pillboxes and the last in an open position. The firecontrolpost was slightly withdrawn and there was air defense positions and bunkers to close combat defense around the area. In August 1944, the gun battery was disbanded and the soldiers moved to Le Havre in order to participate in the upcoming defense of the city. After the war one of the pillboxes for the guns, was blown away.
